The REAL ID Act and Impact for Washington Residents
The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005, requires minimum security standards for license issuance and production and prohibits Federal agencies from accepting for certain purposes driver’s licenses and identification cards from states not meeting the Act’s minimum standards. This includes the boarding of federally regulated commercial aircraft as well as entry into federal facilities and military bases.
No Real ID or Acceptable ID
Starting February 1, 2026, if you are unable to provide the required acceptable form of ID at a TSA checkpoint, you will have the option to pay a $45 fee to use TSA ConfirmID. TSA will then attempt to verify your identity so you can begin the airport security screening process.
Don’t have an acceptable ID listed on this page? Visit our TSA ConfirmID page and pay the $45 fee before heading to the airport.
About the form
Use this form to pay for the TSA ConfirmID Fee when an air traveler 18 or older has lost or does not have an acceptable form of identification to present at the TSA checkpoint.
Dont have a Real ID or acceptable ID? TSA may be able to help.
If you are unable to provide the required acceptable ID, such as a passport or REAL ID, you can pay a $45 fee to use TSA ConfirmID. TSA will then attempt to verify your identity so you can go through security; however, there is no guarantee TSA can do so.
Please note: Using TSA ConfirmID is optional. If you choose not to use it and don’t have an acceptable ID, you may not be allowed through security and may miss your flight. Fraud or other criminal activity regarding this process will be processed under federal penalties.
Who should fill out the form?
- Travelers 18 and older who do not have a REAL ID, valid passport or another acceptable ID may use TSA ConfirmID. Children under 18 do not need ID for domestic flights. If a child is flying alone and has TSA PreCheck, they will need an acceptable ID to receive Precheck screening. Check with your airline for their own policies regarding unaccompanied minors.
- Each traveler 18 or older without an acceptable ID must complete the TSA ConfirmID process separately.
What do you need to pay for access to TSA ConfirmID?
- Travelers legal name (Note: someone other than the traveler may make the payment, but the travelers information must be entered correctly)
- Travelers start date (the payment is valid for 10 days from the date entered)
- A valid bank account (ACH), debit card, credit card, Venmo, or PayPal to pay the $45 fee.
